The five-yen coin, or "go-en dama," carries a special meaning of fate and chance. People in Japan often bring five-yen coins to Shinto shrines to build a good relationship with the deities, and it’s common to place one in a new wallet before adding any other money.The charm of the five-yen coin lies in its name: "go-EN." The number 5 means "go" in Japanese, and "yen" sounds like "en." More importantly, "go-EN" means "honorable success," especially in relationships. People toss these coins into temples, hoping to attract new connections—fortune, friendship, or love.Additionally, five-yen coins are often given as "good luck" gifts during the Japanese New Year. For all these reasons, I designed this piece of jewelry to rest near the wearer’s solar plexus, deepening the connection to the coin and its powerful energies.
